Up to Speed is not medical advice

Up to Speed is a place to keep track of a family member's medical information. It is not a medical device, not a clinical system, and not a substitute for the people treating your family. Nothing in it is a diagnosis, a treatment recommendation, or a reason to change or delay anything your care team told you to do. That goes for a chart, for a threshold line, and above all for anything an AI feature writes.

Use it to arrive at appointments better prepared and to ask better questions. Then ask them.

In an emergency, call your local emergency number or your care team's on-call line. Do not wait on anything you read here.

What Up to Speed does, and where it can be wrong

  • Records arrive from your hospital's system with a delay, sometimes hours and sometimes days. What you see here may not be the whole picture, and the absence of a result here does not mean there isn't one.
  • Records can arrive incomplete, or not at all, if the hospital's system doesn't share that data type.
  • AI-generated summaries and reviews can be confidently wrong. They can miss something important and they can invent something that isn't there. Treat them as a prompt for a question, never as an answer.
  • Alerts and threshold lines are values you or someone you invited entered. They are not clinical orders and Up to Speed does not check them against any protocol.

Your account

  • A sign-up invite is personal: the link we email sets up an account for that address only, works once, and lapses after 14 days.
  • Keep your password to yourself, and use a real one. There is no second factor here.
  • Invite links grant access to a real person's medical record. Send them to people you trust, over a channel you trust, and revoke them when they're no longer needed.
  • You are responsible for what the people you invite do with what they can see.
  • Connecting an outside AI assistant to your record is your choice, and it is read-only. What that assistant does with what it reads is between you and whoever provides it. It is governed by their terms, and Up to Speed can neither control it nor see it.
  • Only enter information you have the right to enter: your own, or that of someone you are the parent, guardian or authorised carer of.

Gifts

A gift is a prepayment of Premium for one household: somebody pays for a run of months up front and a family gets them. Anyone can buy one for anyone, and whoever buys one needs no Up to Speed account of their own.

  • A gift is delivered as a link, and the link is the key. Whoever opens it can claim it, whether or not they are the person it was addressed to. That is deliberate, so a mistyped address can be put right by forwarding the email rather than buying a second gift. It also means the giver is responsible for where the link is sent and who it gets passed on to.
  • An unopened gift can be refunded in full, whenever you ask. The address to write to: [email protected]. A gift never expires, so there is no deadline on the refund or on opening it.
  • An opened gift cannot be refunded, and it cannot be moved to another household once it has been opened. A gift has no cash value and cannot be exchanged for one.
  • A household already paying for a plan receives a gift as billing credit for what it cost, rather than as extra time. Their card rests until that credit is used up and the plan they chose carries on as it was.
  • If a gift is refunded after it was opened, the household may lose whatever gifted time was left on it.

When the gifted months run out, the household is in the position it would be in if a plan had stopped: nothing is deleted, everything already recorded stays readable and exportable by everyone it is shared with, and adding to the record and the MyChart sync pause until somebody starts a plan.

Privacy and HIPAA

Up to Speed is not a HIPAA-covered service. It is not a healthcare provider, a health plan or a business associate of one, so the legal protections attached to your hospital's patient portal do not follow your data here. Some features also send medical details to an outside AI company. The privacy notice spells out exactly which features, exactly what they send, and what is not promised about it. Please read it before you connect a hospital account.

No warranty, and limits

Up to Speed is provided as-is, with no warranty of any kind. It may be unavailable, lose data, or stop working without notice. It is not a backup of your medical record. Your hospital's own portal remains the authoritative copy, and you should not rely on Up to Speed as your only copy of anything. To the fullest extent the law allows, whoever provides this instance of Up to Speed is not liable for any loss arising from your use of it.

Changes

These terms and the privacy notice can change as the app changes. The date at the top of each page tells you when it last did. Continuing to use Up to Speed after a change means you accept the updated version.
